Tegucigalpa is a silver-mining camp that became a capital without ever unfolding: streets pleat over hillsides, stairways stand in for avenues, and the name itself — locals just say Tegus — keeps the old mineral clink. Above the bowl, the Cristo del Picacho spreads its arms; higher still, La Tigra's cloud forest drips in permanent private weather.

The sensible traveller takes the historic center on foot in the morning — the cathedral's gilded altarpiece, the old university turned gallery, Parque La Leona's viewpoint balconies —; rides up to El Picacho for the whole pleated city at once; and keeps the best for a dawn in La Tigra, where quetzal sightings are earned in mist, forty minutes from downtown.

The Guide's honesty: Tegus asks the region's usual street sense — move by day downtown, ride apps at night, and let your lodging brief you —; most travellers pass her by for Copán and the islands, which is precisely why her prices are kind and her welcomes real; and the mountain is the point: if you must choose, choose La Tigra.
