Kyiv was baptizing herself in the Dnipro when Moscow was still forest: fifteen centuries of golden domes above green hills, chestnut trees the city plants like promises, Saint Sophia's bells, and the Lavra's caves where monks have prayed since before the word Ukraine was ever written down. She is one of Europe's oldest capitals and — the present has made this plain — one of her bravest.

This is a postal written with love and patience in the same hand: war still writes the mornings there, and the Guide does not send travellers where sirens outrank church bells. What we counsel instead is support from afar — read her poets, learn her history, cook the borsch that UNESCO now protects, keep her name spelled Kyiv — and let the longing accumulate interest.

The Guide's honesty, which here is a vow: this page is a promise. When the sky over the Dnipro belongs to swifts and church bells again, this postal will open like the others — the doors beneath it will fill with neighborhoods, tables and day trips, and the first travellers back will find a city that learned the full price of her mornings. Few places on Earth will deserve the visit more.
